Alkoomi Wines is currently run by the second and third generation – owners Sandy and Rod Hallett – with their daughters Laura, Emily and Molly. Together they passionately follow in the footsteps of Alkoomi founders Merv and Judy Lange, who pioneered the Frankland wine region with their first plantings in 1971.
Alkoomi today has 106 hectares of estate vineyard. The owners and winemaker, Andrew Cherry, are committed to an ethos of favouring quality over quantity, and to managing the property in an environmentally sustainable manner, with the aim of producing fruit which displays a sense of place and purity.
Sandy and Rod’s vision for the future is to build on and continue growing Alkoomi Wines on the firm foundations that Merv and Judy laid some 45 years ago.

In the lead up to Alkoomi’s harvest, samples from each block of fruit are brought into the winery laboratory to monitor acid and sugar levels. However, every picking decision is only made after walking up and down the rows of vines, tasting the fruit in the vineyard. The grapes are harvested in the cool, early morning with the aim of retaining the primary fruit freshness from juice, through fermentation, to bottle.
