Deliciously, Classic Bordeaux
Château Cossieu-Coutelin St Estèphe 2016
91pts Wine Enthusiast
Almost 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the vineyards are made up of relatively high gravelly hill tops, lending a lovely linear minerality to the juice.
Aged for 12 months in French oak the wine had time to seamlessly integrate with elegance, and tannins that gently coat your palate, and lends a nuance of vanilla.
2016 was an excellent vintage across the region; the reds displaying the classic, dense, ripe, rich black berries. There is a purity of fruit that defines St Estèphe and the rain earlier in the season allowed the grapes to maintain a bright acidity that keeps a freshness in the wines.
You can't go wrong with 2016, Château Cossieu-Coutelin St Estèphe will delight you, whether you drink it over the holidays with family and friends or stash it into your cellar for further keeping.
Better yet, pick up a case and do both!
Happy holidays.
Tasting Notes
A firmly structured wine with the delicious dark tannins, typical of this appellation while also having rich, bold black fruits and dried herbs. A remarkable vintage and a magnificent, elegant and powerful wine.
